It depends on the size of the box you are building. Our [permalink p="214" target="self"]Lotus[/permalink] and [permalink p="253" target="self"]Symmetry[/permalink] boxes are the simplest and can be completed in an 10-12 hour period. The [permalink p="280" target="self"]Lilies[/permalink] cabinet or [permalink p="265" target="self"]Birds in Flight[/permalink] chest could take as many as three days. This does not include applying the finish and installing the drawer lining. We recommend, most importantly, that you do not hurry. Devote as much time as you need to make this a truly special item.
First, be assured that each kit has been assembled and tested for proper fit. Also, you will be provided with complete instructions on how to construct the drawers. If for some reason, you are having problems with any of the fits in the kits, call us and we’ll return your call immediately to walk you through the process.
Tools and Supplies
There are so many great and affordable tools in the marketplace today. We often shop at Harbor Freight and have seen a pin nailer for sale there for about $25. While you’re there, you might want to consider upgrading to some spray equipment to apply lacquer! And don’t forget, you’ll need an air compressor for both of these tools.
There are so many finishing products available these days. I personally use Minwax stain to give a rich warm color to darker woods. I like to leave maple without any stain. I also like to spray pre-catalyzed lacquer on my boxes which is available at most professional paint suppliers. If you don’t have any spray equipment, you can buy spray lacquer in a can.I have used Guardsman for this purpose. And if you want to do a hand-rubbed oil finish, Watco Oil has been around forever. Be prepared to put on lots of coats for an excellent finish.
I love the designs, but I don’t have the time or inclination to build a kit. Can I buy a finished box?
Yes! Visit our sister site Dream Mountain Studio where you can purchase finished versions of all our kits, as well as silverware boxes.
