FAQ

Assembly

How long will it take me to build a kit?

It depends on the size of the box you are building. Our [permalink p=”214″ target=”self”]Lotus[/permalink] and [permalink p=”253″ target=”self”]Symmetry[/permalink] boxes are the simplest and can be completed in an 10-12 hour period. The [permalink p=”280″ target=”self”]Lilies[/permalink] cabinet or [permalink p=”265″ target=”self”]Birds in Flight[/permalink] chest could take as many as three days. This does not include applying the finish and installing the drawer lining. We recommend, most importantly, that you do not hurry. Devote as much time as you need to make this a truly special item.

What if I get stuck?

Give us a call at (760) 648-7808! If we don’t pick up right away, leave a message and we will return your call within 24 hours. We have made every one of theses boxes multiple times and feel confident we can help you work through any problems you may encounter.

If I assemble the kit and the drawers do not fit correctly. What do I do?

First, be assured that each kit has been assembled and tested for proper fit. Also, you will be provided with complete instructions on how to construct the drawers. If for some reason, you are having problems with any of the fits in the kits, call us and we’ll return your call immediately to walk you through the process.

How detailed are the instructions?

Every kit has a complete list of materials and tools required. Additionally, each kit comes with carefully written instructions with pictures which explain the more complicated procedures. We also provide a “helpful hints” section and definitions of any special terms.

Is there an age limit for people assembling the kits?

A person of 16 years of age could be successful building one of our kits. It would be good if that young person had some previous experience in model building or some craft activity. However, a younger child with the guidance of an adult would certainly be able to participate in this activity.

Tools and Supplies

Where can I get a pin nailer cheap?

There are so many great and affordable tools in the marketplace today. We often shop at Harbor Freight and have seen a pin nailer for sale there for about $25. While you’re there, you might want to consider upgrading to some spray equipment to apply lacquer! And don’t forget, you’ll need an air compressor for both of these tools.

What brands of finishing supplies do you recommend?

There are so many finishing products available these days. I personally use Minwax stain to give a rich warm color to darker woods. I like to leave maple without any stain. I also like to spray pre-catalyzed lacquer on my boxes which is available at most professional paint suppliers. If you don’t have any spray equipment, you can buy spray lacquer in a can.I have used Guardsman for this purpose. And if you want to do a hand-rubbed oil finish, Watco Oil has been around forever. Be prepared to put on lots of coats for an excellent finish.

Would you create a custom kit?

We have actually built several jewelry boxes based on our designs but with custom features. We would certainly consider it. The best way to get started is to send us a picture of what you have in mind. info@dreammountainstudio.com
